The harder I work, the luckier I get!

Hello all - Happy Monday!

What a grey, dreary, miserable start to the week hey? It seems winter’s coming finally, after what has been a pretty special summer. But fear not, I bring you some sunshine and joy in the form of our weekly, Coaches Catch Up!!

So what have I been up to this last week?

Well to be honest this last week has been a really productive one when it comes to all things Evolve and the hard work is paying off with us being on track for one of our best months in terms of people on our FIT30, 30 day trial and we are only on day 15.

It seems like a lot of things are really starting to fall in to place with Evolve; now we have completed our re-brand and complete gym renovation and Dave and I have started to really focus on the business side as much as we do the quality of coaching.

I am not going to lie, it’s been a difficult transition at times. For years we both ran our own individual PT business and we also owned an online nutrition business but when we opened Evolve we were the cooks, the cleaners and the bottle washers and have always been more than happy to do as much as possible ourselves.

However, recently we made the decision that whilst trying to do everything ourselves and in the process saving ourselves money we were probably losing the business money in the long run. Our time wasn’t being used effectively and our heads were in the business not working on it. So it is no surprise that since making the decision to outsource work and work with others on areas that don’t get enough attention the business has already started to see the results. As the old saying goes “the harder I work, the luckier I become”.

I suppose it’s much like the relationship everyone has with fitness and nutrition. We all want to do it ourselves but often biting the bullet and enlisting the help of someone more qualified than you, who’s job is to take the stress away from you having to think about what works and what doesn’t, ends up getting you the best results and allows you to focus your time and energy elsewhere.

Don’t worry I am not about to burst into some sales pitch now and link this all back to why you should sign up to us! Just always amazes me how many situations in health and fitness relate to business.

East or West?

Well that is the question.

For those of you who know me well you will know that I have a fond affection for East London. I have never lived there, and probably never would unless we opened an Evolve over there but it is one of my favourite parts of this wonderful city.

Don’t get me wrong, I love South West London, the parks, the river, the cosy pubs and the easy access to the M4 to get back to the West Country. BUT, it does lack a certain edginess! I mean, I think people still look at me like a ruffian because I have tattoos and a nose piercing!! And for me I love the street food markets, the graffiti, the music and the coffee shops of East London.

So last weekend I headed across the city to check out a sample sale at really good independent shoe maker, Justin Deakin, who I came across a year or so ago. I have a few pairs of his boots and I always love the stories behind the designs. He also takes such pride in the little details which go a long way with the customer. Something I like to think we do at Evolve too.

Customer service and attention to detail can make or break a business so when you walk in to a shop on the other side of the city and the owner asks you how your gym is going you know he cares about his customers. If you want to check out his stuff either head to his shop next time you're over in East London or visit his website

Coffee anyone?

Who doesn’t love a good cup of coffee? Well apparently Ollie and Dave don’t... but I'll save that for another email.

Coffee is another huge passion of mine and I often get asked which are my favourite coffee shops in the area. Well, right now, my favourite local one to the studio is District next to Parsons Green tube station and if you are venturing a little further to Sloane Square it would be Roasting Party on Pavillion Road. Both of these places care about their coffee and the process and I am yet to have had a bad cup from either place.

Talking of coffee, its that time of morning again so I am going to head out and get one.

Hope you all have an amazing week, don’t forget to set yourself some small daily goals to keep you on track and if you are wandering past drop in and say hello to us.
